Descriptive instructions on resetting the ink cartridges on HP printers
- Power off the printer and open the access door. Wait for the carriage to move to the center and remove the ink cartridges from the printer.
- Press the power button provided on the control panel of the printer and turn it off after about 20 seconds. Repeat the step 5 times. The printer’s memory can store the HP cartridge identification information of last five ink cartridges that were used, so repeating the step for five times will erase the previously used ink cartridge information stored on the printer.
- Reinsert the cartridges into the printer and print a test page to check if the cartridge level has been reset.
- Another method for resetting the ink level on the printer is carrying out a full printer reset. Turn the printer on.
- Pull the access door and remove the ink cartridges from the slots of the printer.
- Close the access door and unplug the power cord sharply while the printer is on. Plug in the power cord after a minute. Keep holding the power button on the printer's control panel for at least 30 seconds and release it.
- Reinsert the ink cartridges and wait for the printer to print an alignment page. Load the alignment page with its print side down on the scanner glass and scan the alignment page. Let the printer do the cartridge alignment.
- If the above steps didn’t help, remove the refilled ink cartridge from the printer. Replace it with an old ink cartridge and let the printer print an alignment page.
- Now replace the old ink cartridge with another one and get the alignment page printed. This erases the memory of refilled ink cartridge from the printer.
- Now insert the refilled ink cartridge into the printer. The printer will now detect the cartridge as being full. If the issue persists, contact your manufacturer to get the printer serviced.
